The battle of Vimy Ridge was so important to the Canadian people because the war demanded so much metal that Canada was suppling nine-tenths of all the nickel to the war. This improved the jobs needed greatly. Also the battle was important to the military because our troops were successful in seizing Vimy Ridge from the Germans, where the French and British troops failed in there attampts. Canada started to be looked upon as a nation instead of a dominion of Britan. Some of the consequences of Vimy Ridge for Canadians in the present is we took over Vimy Ridge, that helped Canada stand up for itself and become an independent nation. If we did not take that step towards nation-hood it would have been years before Canada would become a nation. This would have changed us greatly. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

The type of warfare was called "Trench Warfare" This was because | the major portion of the battle was fought in trenches. (Holes in the ground.) Another major part in this battle was weapons. The weapons used were 938 guns, 88mm mortars and machine guns. Also, they used gas. The most used gases were phosgene and chlorine. these gases would disintergrate your lungs. Another way to attack the enemy was to dig tunnels under the German lines and detonate them. This would kill many Germans and leave huge crators in the ground. In this very significant battle 3,598 Candians died bravly. This was a very significant battle to Canadians. It does effect us and the government and the way we are looked upon by the world. this concludes my homepage about the battle of Vimy Ridge.
